This month and last have been very very hairy..Just kidding..I am having fun playing with wool in all of its forms..From roving to yarn and felt..A little silk yarn added in to my pieces..And soaps :-)) Good clean fun!
I think this assortment of felted soaps and hand towels would look pretty displayed in a wicker bowl or basket
My 5x7 needle felted snow scene almost finished
I use individual felting needles instead of the tool seen in this tutorial..
A way to make your own yarn out of wool roving while waiting for your felted soaps to dry :-)
Enjoy!
Something else to try :-) Three methods for making dryer balls
After my walk in the woods, I decided to go for a change of scenery.. I went to the seashore to settle in, drink my coffee and listen to the waves and birds :-)
I am just now home and settled in after having spent a much needed afternoon in nature..When I got on line to post my photos, I immediately came across an extremely shocking and sad news announcement..Terrorist attacks in Paris were unfolding, dozens of people had already been injured and killed..My thoughts and prayers go to the victims and their families...
This weekend started out very very scary, but not with ghosts and goblins....
Mother Nature decided , for the second time in one week, to show us her wrath...Flooding rains introduced themselves into our area and stuck around for a while...As a result many roads had to be closed..
Cities such as Austin, San Antonio suffered HISTORIC FLOODING..
My neighborhood, like many, was in the direct path of very high winds and tornados in the wee hours of Halloween Day..
Several homes, within a few blocks of me, suffered massive structural damage..
I was fortunate in that my home didn't sustain any apparent damage...Our neighborhood elementary school and community high school both suffered significant structural damage..Classes are cancelled for the beginning of the week until repairs can take place..
I am spending Halloween evening in my living room, curled up on my couch..My doggies are snoring at my feet :-)
I decided that I would share a little Halloween fun!
Below is a photo I shot a few years ago.. I added textures and finally, via an online editing software, I converted my photo into a gif image :-)
This was quite a weekend for us Texans..We dealt with the remnants of Hurricane Patricia, the largest hurricane ever recorded on our hemisphere...It made landfall in Mexico as a Category 5 hurricane..Thankfully it hit a remote area and weakened very quickly...It moved northeastwards to Texas..It caused a lot of widespread flooding in and near Houston..Nuisance flooding..Catastrophic flooding in other parts of Texas..The heaviest, the most destructive of rains stayed off shore east of us..
On a grander scale, these rains were an answer to many prayers for those who were dealing with wildfires in Central Texas the last two weeks...In my opinion, it is easier and quicker to clean up and recover from floods than fire..
With time on my hands, and having been cooped up in the house for the past 36 hours I did a little playing..With my photos and animation..After finding out what the gold glitter and the snowfall ( from the software I was using ) looked like on photos, I decided to add their effects to this photo...
I used an online animation- gif software..If you double click on this pic it takes you to the software I used :-)
This is a pic I shot in March 2014..In Tennessee..While I was visiting with my mom..This pic is a depiction of a thunder snow storm... This storm came through on a Weds the second week of my visit...Strange but beautiful..I edited this photo in Photo Shop, by adding texture layers to the original photo...I wanted to make the final composition look more artsy and surreal..
Please turn volume up to maximal loudness , listen to the entire video..Watch in full screen....If you are patient long enough, you will hear the sweet doggie dream noises intermingled with the snoring..
All guaranteed to make you sleepy!
sleep

noun
1.
a condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended.
This is the first year in a long time that I noticed humming birds in my backyard....Lots of them...They come to feed off of my bottlebrush tree..For the last three days I have been stalking and photographing these tiny birds morning and afternoon when the light is pretty..I've come to know and love the sound of a flock of hummingbirds :-)
I also enjoy working on mosaic projects when the weather is comfortable because I prefer to use my patio as my studio..
I am about to dive into another creative endeavor....Weaving...... This is a frame loom...This weaving, when finished will probably be a wall hanging or a mat..
With weaving one can work large or small.....Yarn, string, leather, wire, straw, just about anything that is bendable...
Learning how to weave using sticks is next on my list...
Stay tuned, more pics to be posted soon :-))
New project underway..My doggies keep me company and supervise..Pictured here is Simon :-)
This is the pin loom that I have..The 4x4 inch..These are the same principles work on all pin looms
My very first woven granny square.Took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to warp and weave to this finished square.....Thicker yarn needed for a tighter weave in this basic pattern :-)
